As another year draws to a close, Christmas lights switch on up and down the country.  Festivals of Light see lanterns lining pathways through woodlands and spectacular illuminations are projected onto historic buildings or reflected in fountains and lakes.

Lighting up the night sky reminds us that many quartz and natural stones can be accented with sparkly, reflective glints and are named after astronomical bodies.

Starry nights

From the world of stone, some incredible naturally formed patterns and colours are available.  The extravagantly patterned Cosmic Black and Cosmic White, monochromatic Silver Cloud and grey-streaked Andromeda White could easily be seen in any night sky.  Star Galaxy granite with its shimmery copper flecks remains popular, as does Stargate granite with silvery glints.  In quartz, Silestone Stellar Night is a close match, with its reflective mirror chips.

Other celestially inspired names include Dekton Sirius and Breccia Taurus, a grey and gold marble which is truly out of this world!  This stargazer theme continues with Cimstone Nebula, the whole planet range from Quartz Forms – Jupiter, Saturn and Mars and Silestone Blanco Orion and Blanco Zeus.

Moon Light

Angola Blue Moon granite, with its midnight blue base and iridescent crystalline flecks, certainly looks like a moonlit sky.  In quartz, Compaq Luna and Compaq Moon are paler in colour, and could be described as sprinkled with moondust.  CRL Luna Bianco offers a super honed finish if a matt surface is your preference.

Expanding on surface texture, a moonscape conjures up rocky terrain with deep craters.  Caesarstone have long since led the way on concrete finishes, options include Airy Concrete, Raw Concrete or Rugged Concrete and thankfully not a crater in sight!  For a softer, warmer look, Cimstone Cemento Matte and B-Quartz Ambiente Cemento both have a luminosity, reminiscent of moonlight.

Fire Light & Candlelight

Heading back to down to earth, winter nights are warmed by cosy fires and the glow of candlelight.  Stunning, flame-like colour & pattern are the main characteristics of Black Fusion granite, while Balmoral Red granite is characterised by warm terracotta tones.

Glowing embers and homely firesides spring to mind with some of the new quartz offerings from Silestone – Romantic Ash, Bohemian Flame and Cinder Craze.  These three are in response to the return in popularity of dark worktops.  All have dusty flecks and smokey veins, that will coordinate equally well with natural woods or painted cabinets.

Creating the soft, warmth of candlelight in a colour scheme and worktop choices include Unistone, Crema Marfil or our own Eterno, Carina White. From Silestone, the aptly named Ethereal Dusk, Ethereal Glow and Ethereal Haze could also be contenders.

So wrap up warm and pay us a visit to see how we can ‘light up your life’ with a new worktop!
