Speak to a Specialist

Choosing a beautiful granite or quartz worktop is an exciting part of your kitchen renovation, but to make the space truly special, it needs to work harmoniously with your cabinets, flooring, and other furnishings.

As stone specialists, we work with our customers to ensure that every element of their kitchen feels intentional, both aesthetically pleasing and functional.  Here’s our expert guide to pulling it all together.

Start with Your Worktops as the Anchor

Although your worktops are fitted last, they often become the most eye-catching feature in the kitchen, especially when you choose a natural stone with bold veining or a richly coloured quartz. Once you have decided on your worktop material and tone, you can build the rest of your palette around it.  Some things to consider are:

  • If your stone has dramatic patterns, keep other finishes more subtle to avoid the space being too busy.
  • If your stone is simple and understated, use handles and paint colours to add texture and interest.

Pairing with Cabinets

High Contrast for Drama

  • Dark granite (e.g. Cosmic Black) paired with crisp white cabinets makes a bold, modern statement.
  • Light quartz (e.g. Eterno Carina White) with dark navy or forest green feels elegant and timeless.

Tone-on-Tone for Harmony

  • Warm beige granite (e.g. Ivory Fantasy) with cream or light oak creates a calm, cohesive look.
  • Soft grey quartz (e.g. CRL Grey Shimmer) with pale grey cabinets adds depth without being overpowering.

We always recommend that customers visit our showroom for a consultation and to view the stone and samples.  Another advantage of this is that you can bring in samples of cabinetry, paint, or even a mood board to see how they work with the stone.

Pairing with Flooring

Wood & Stone = Natural Match

Warm-toned wood floors bring out the earthiness in granite. Choose similar undertones (warm with warm, cool with cool) to bring symmetry and avoid clashes.

Tiles for a Sleek Finish

Large format tiles in porcelain or natural stone pair beautifully with polished quartz for a clean, modern feel.

Avoid Visual Overload

If your worktop is heavily patterned, opt for plain flooring.  If your worktop is simple, you can add interest with patterned tiles or parquet.

Pairing with Splashbacks

Stone Splashback for Seamless Style

Extending your worktop material up the wall creates a sleek, unified look and makes cleaning easier.

Glass or Gloss for Minimalism

Solid colour glass splashbacks add a pop of colour without competing with the worktop pattern.

Tiles for Character

Subway, herringbone, or geometric tiles can add personality.  Just choose colours that complement the tones of your stone.

Think About Lighting

Your colour pairings will look different under natural daylight versus artificial light.  Install under-cabinet lighting to highlight veining and texture.  Also, test samples in the actual space before making a final decision.

Finally, Test Everything Together

Before you commit:

  • Gather samples of your chosen worktop, cabinet finish, flooring, and splashback.
  • Lay them out together in the same light you’ll have in your kitchen.  This simple step helps avoid costly mismatches.
