Speak to a Specialist

If a 2026 kitchen or bathroom renovation is on your mind, it may feel like you have plenty of time, but it’s smart to begin planning now.  And although they might be the last things to be fitted, it’s worth thinking about your choice of worktop early.  If you are thinking about stone worktops, they are a significant investment, and there is a lot of choice, so early consultation with a specialist will make the process so much smoother.

Here’s why choosing the stone early sets the tone for a more successful renovation:

Slab Selection Takes Time

If you are opting for natural stone like marble or granite, every slab is unique and we would always recommend you see the individual slabs in person. Once you have selected the individual slabs, work with your fabricator so that they are very clear on how you would like the slab to be cut to get the veining you want on your worktop.  Quartz is more consistent in patterning however, the lines evolve constantly with new colours being introduced and others withdrawn.  Also popular colours can sell out quickly and need to be reordered, which can have long lead times.

Choosing early ensures you get the exact stone that you want.

Your Stone Choice Shapes the Whole Design

The worktop is one of the largest visual elements in a kitchen or bathroom and it influences everything from cabinet colour to plumbing finishes and flooring.

Selecting your stone early helps:

  • Creative a cohesive design palette
  • Prevent last minute changes that delay the project
  • Ensure your contractor can source materials

Many customers find it easier to choose cabinets and paint after selecting stone, not the other way round.

Fabrication and Installation Lead Times Fill Quickly

Quality fabricators have limited slots for templating and installation, especially in peak periods, and obviously all stone needs to be cut to size and go through the fabrication process.  Planning your stone selection early means:

  • Securing templating and installation dates to prevent having an unusable space
  • Keeping your project on schedule

For a large project, have everything preplanned and organised will make a noticeable difference to your project and your stress levels.

Early Selection Helps You Budget More Accurately

Stone worktop pricing varies by material, slab size, rarity, finish, edge profile and the complexity of the project. The sooner you choose the material that sooner you will have clarity on your budget.

By choosing your stone early in the process, you will be able to:

  • Evaluate upgrades like full-height cladding or waterfall edges
  • Explore cost-saving options such as off-cuts for utilities or vanities

Better planning means fewer surprises and ultimately greater control over your project.

You Get the Luxury of Time and Better Design Confidence

Rushed decisions often lead to regret.  Starting your journey early gives you time to:

  • Visit showrooms and compare materials
  • Visualise how patterns will flow on islands or cladding
  • View stone under different lighting
  • Decide on details like sink reveal, edge profile and finish

A thoughtful, unhurried approach always results in a more elevated final look.
