Men, Mental Health & Manufacturing
November is all about our menfolk & looking after them. Shockingly, suicide rates among UK men run at 78% compared to 22% for women, so it’s important we allow space and time to talk about their mental-health and well-being. We need to promote a culture that encourages men to ‘Speak Up’ not ‘Man Up.’
Fabricating and installing granite or quartz worktops requires muscle, so it’s no surprise that our workforce is 75% male. In this blog we are focusing on our own team and their individual contributions that go into producing your kitchen worktops.

Kicking off with templating, this is the first stage of the process. It’s when we first visit the site to measure up for the Granite and Quartz. Simon or Tim will discuss the details that make all the difference to your worktops. This is your chance to discuss edge profiles, height of upstands, position of drainer grooves etc.
Once the template is done, the CAD drawings are sent through to the workshop. This is where the knowledge of our sawyers, Rob, and Connor, come into practice, especially when working with highly patterned Granites like Black Fusion and Quartz like CaesarStone Calacatta Nuvo.
Once cut, the Granite, Quartz or Marble goes onto our CNC machine to have the cut outs and routering done. The finishing touches are then done by our team of highly skilled stonemasons, Luis, Halli and Callum. Finally, every job is quality checked by Lee to make sure it meets our high standards.
Kitchen and bathroom projects really come together once the Granite and Quartz worktops are fitted. For our customers, it is the final piece of the puzzle. Our highly skilled fitters, Jack, Nathan, and Gary lift and shift the stone into position. And then join and seal all the pieces, like a big jigsaw.
We asked some of the team what their favourite stones were – Lee likes Quartz Forms Halley, Tim prefers Ceramics like Ceralsio Belvedere Black, and Connor has Cimstone Olympos in his kitchen.
Remember to look after the men in your life and let them know it’s okay to talk!
